And the winner is....

Can't tell you how delighted I was that we won the North West Regional Development Agency Awards for B&B of the year on Monday. Since June we've been waiting for a mystery shopper, filling in application forms and holding our breath for the result. The competition was each of the from the tourist boards of the north west; so the winners from Cheshire, Liverpool, Manchester and Cumbria. The standard was really high and I was sure that after just a year we'd no chance.

Just so it wasn't all about winning we planned had a day out in Blackpool, fish, chips, rollercoasters & illuminations. Then back to the hotel to change into black tie. WAG style glamour at the Tower Ballroom for the awards with a Strictly theme. A torturous 2 hours of dinner before the winners were announced, very little passed my lips - except gin!

Then the golden envelope and we only bloomin' won. Simon & Wendy from Augill Castle presented the award which was great as I so admire what they've created up in Kirkby Stephen. Plus what a role model, they won the award 2 years ago and went on to win the national award this year.

So Visit England Awards is the next level, hopefully we'll be winning for Lancashire in April 2010.

Loveley Peace in The Guardian (sic)

Sally's piece about us was in the Guardian Travel Section on Saturday. If you didn't see it then I've posted a copy into the press archive.

I thought it was a really lovely review that perfectly captured what The Ashton is about.

A couple of issues it did raise have now been resolved. Craig has now been removed from his post as chief proof reader. Plus I'll be making a start on the garden to get it up to Chelsea standard for the summer!

Anyone for More?

The Guest List

   The Guest Book

Well we're onto the last few pages of the guest book. So before the new one arrives I just wanted to post my top 3 comments from 2008:

"Beautiful in every way. Like coming to a mate's (very posh) house - the perfect attitude and              ambiance." Mary & Andy

"If only I made my guests feel as welcome in my own home! Wonderful in everyway! Julie

"Serious Comfort! First rate attention to detail. Food divine. Showers superb. Open hearted host.          An experience to cherish." Judith & Ed

Thanks again to all of you who left reviews on Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Laterooms too.

Bye Boo

Many of you will have seen my rugby tackling skills at keeping the cats out of the house; and anyone who's stayed in the Garden Room will have woken to paw prints on the bathroom window. Sadly my beautiful girl Boo was hit by a car this week and ran out of lives. We miss her so much and the sense of mischief she brought to the place.  X Boo Boo

‘Lost in Austen’ a new drama inspired by Pride and Prejudice. Might not be very good but hopefully it looks gorgeous!
